The Top 5 Benefits of Plastic Injection Moulding

Plastic injection moulding is a production method used all around the globe to produce a wide range of products from the simple to the complex but why?

In this blog, we’ll detail the benefits of plastic injection moulding, and why you should consider it for your next project.

The Benefits

It's Versatile

Injection moulding is one of the most versatile manufacturing methods available.

From everyday household items such as dustpans, to intricate components for complex products like water pumps, such as our AmeyJet, plastic injection moulding can do it all. Plastic parts can also be snap fitted, screwed, glued and welded.

Additionally, by using 2 shot+ technology, different materials and colours can be moulded simultaneously, and chemically bonded during the moulding process, while still keeping structural integrity of the product.

A good example of this is a toothbrush with different colours and soft touch handle.

The Green Possibilities

Injection moulding is an environmentally friendlier process than many realise.

Green injection moulding has come a long way recently, with many alternatives to resins, such as recycled and biodegradable options, which are now available. Additionally, wood such as bamboo can be added to the plastic to make the compound even greener.

Aside from the materials used, injection moulding is an intrinsically low-waste process. Items are designed to the highest level of accuracy through computer programs, and then, only the required amount of plastic is used to produce it.

The very little scrap that is produced can then also be recycled for future use, meaning very little goes to waste.

It's Capable of Large scale, efficient production

Injection moulding makes large scale production of an item, simple.

Once a product is designed, many units can be produced, all to the exact same specifications.

The complexity and size of the design can change production times, but it generally takes seconds rather than minutes to make a moulded part.

Semi-autonomous Operation

Although you will currently still need human operation to set up the machine (and this is also starting to become automated) once it’s running it can be left to finish production, allowing other tasks to be carried out at the same time, streamlining operations.

It's Cost Effective

Plastic injection moulding can offer cheaper and better-quality solutions compared to other methods and materials.

We recently managed to help a client do exactly that, as well as resolve a fault on their product, saving them money that they were then able to pass on to their customers.

At Amey Plastics, offer a comprehensive plastic injection moulding service that use a wide range of engineering grade polymers and materials.
