Ken began his engineering career at the age of just 15 years old when he embarked on a City & Guilds apprenticeship in tool making. After completing the course, he worked as an in-house toolmaker of a plastics company before setting up his own workshop where he lived in Surrey. In 1980, he went into business with his older brother, Phil, and established a number of successful enterprises, including ‘Scotlamp Lighting Ltd’ which was formed in 1987 and sold in 2010.
Whether it be starting a new project from concept, or consulting on existing designs and tools, Ken carries out all the technical design work using the latest 3D technology, SLA modelling and 3D printing for the clients of Amey Plastics.
After living in Australia for 12 years, Phil returned to the UK and worked as a machine demonstrator for a company that specialised in shot blasting equipment.
After going into business with Ken, the brothers took on a variety of production tasks including:- wire cutting, cable preparation and production of special tools, as well as wiring and assembly of light fittings for the sign trade. Phil took responsibility for overseeing production, managing processes and ensuring the quality control of all their projects together.
Since the acquisition of Amey Plastics, Phil has taken a business development role which includes responsibility for sales and co-ordinating all marketing activities.
